Alpha Counseling Services is based on the vision of creating “new beginnings” and “leading” change. Most life lessons are learned, from coping skills that we have applied, to problems and challenges we have encountered in the past. However, at some point, most of us have, or will, be faced with moments that make us feel like we are being bombarded from every angle. Our previous life lessons appear ineffective, and as we instinctively retreat to protect ourselves, we end up feeling as if we have even less power over our situation. Over time, we end up developing the false belief that “life happens” and that we have little choice over the outcome. Ultimately, this can undermine our sense of self and our future well-being. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a sign of “leading” yourself towards positive changes and being the force of change. My professional experiences have shown me how breaking the negative cycle of helplessness, can ultimately create the “new beginning”.
As a mental health therapist, I have experience counseling adolescents, adults, couples and families. My education, training and professional experience has allowed me to treat a broad spectrum of psychological issues including: depression, anxiety, substance abuse, stress and anger management, grief/bereavement, adjustment with life transitions as well as school related concerns. Prior to my private practice, I worked with adults in outpatient mental and substance abuse treatment programs, with seniors in long-term care settings and with middle to high school age children in school-based settings.
I am a board certified Licensed Clinical Social Worker holding a Masters Degree in Social Work and Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Adelphi University, NY. I am also a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and hold a certification as an Anger Resolution Therapist.
